|Milton Palacio shares basketball techniques with children
Professional NBA basketball player Milton Palacio of the Boston Celtics was in San Pedro earlier this week conducting a basketball training program for the children of the island. Joining this Belizean/American basketball "pro" were other Belizean players who volunteered their time and expertise to teach this fun sport.
Approximately 85 children were given the opportunity to "shoot some hoops" with these professionals at Central Park and the San Pedro High School court on Monday, July 29th and Tuesday, July 30th. Apart from teaching basic basketball maneuvers and techniques, the participants were lectured on the importance of good sportsmanship and team spirit. At the end of the two-day program, each participant received an autographed picture of Milton Palacio and other basketball paraphernalia.
While in San Pedro, Milton Palacio and his team were able to enjoy a tour of the island and were also delighted by dance performances courtesy of the San Pedro Dance Company. These generous athletes then moved on to Belize City where they will conduct the same program for children of the city.
On behalf of the children of San Pedro we thank these kind-hearted players for taking the initiative to promote healthy sports in Belize.
