prepares to swear-in new Mayoress, Deputy Mayor and Town Councilors
The Mayoress, Deputy
Mayor and the remaining members of the San Pedro Town Councilors were
officially sworn-in at a formal ceremony on Tuesday evening, March
11th at the San Pedro
Town Hall. Officiating at the "Swearing-in Ceremony" was Commissioner of
the Supreme Court, Baldemar Graniel Sr. Announced as the newly appointed
Deputy Mayor was Senior Justice of the Peace Severo Guerrero Sr. Also
present were the Area Representative for Belize Rural South, Honorable
Manuel Heredia Jr.; Local Government Officer from the Ministry of Local
Government, Mr. Aniki Palacio; numerous supporters and friends.
Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Kevin Gonzalez welcomed the
gathering and stated that the evening's ceremony was a historic occasion.
"Tonight we are experiencing a change of guard, long anticipated," Mr.
Gonzalez said. Following the playing of the national
anthem Mr. Lucio Guerrero, Lay
Minister of the Catholic Church gave the invocation. Honorable Manuel
Heredia Jr. then addressed the gathering, stating that the new mayoress
and councilors had a hard task ahead but he trusted that they were able
and willing to go through with it. He pledged his support to the new town
council saying, "Let us forget about colors and work together for the
betterment of our beloved San Pedro."
Following the swearing-in ceremonies, Her
Ladyship, Mayoress Elsa Paz gave the vote of thanks and ended her address
saying, "I hope to show you that I can prove my capability and strength
in this new position as Mayoress of San Pedro Town. Let us unite to serve
our community with dignity and love."
After the formalities, a small reception was held to
congratulate the newly appointed town council.
The new San Pedro Town Council consists of Mayoress
Elsa Paz, Deputy Mayor Severo Guerrero Sr., J.P., Justiniano Guerrero,
Romel Nesto Gomez, Juan Alamilla, Joseph Elijio and Merlene "Mel" Spain,
