Over $800 was donated to provide hundreds of pounds of rice, beans, potatoes, salt and pepper to the neediest people in San Pedro.

As if the dedicated dentists and health care volunteers from the Belize Mission Project had not done enough for the people of Ambergris Caye during their weeklong stay, before leaving the island on Friday October 30th, they gave back even more to the community.

Individuals in the group donated over $1,600BZ of their own personal money to purchase food for the less fortunate families on the island. With help from Maria Vasquez, the group rode on golf-carts and ventured into underprivileged neighborhoods, where they distributed one hundred bags of rice, beans, salt, pepper, potatoes and coconuts.

As the jubilant volunteers loaded their carts with food, they asked amongst themselves, "How do you say free in Spanish?” "Some one responded ‘gratis, comida gratis' and they all repeated the giving words while riding through the different areas. The San Pedro Sun followed the food-drive and watched the excitement grow as they entered the neighborhoods. Grateful families and children ran to collect their free food and responded with wide smiles and words of thanks.

The San Pedro Sun extends a heartfelt "thank you” to the members of the Belize Mission Project for their incredible generosity and care!
