A large crowd was on hand at San Pedro's hot spot The Jaguars Temple Night Club last Thursday for the culmination of the Tele-radio karaoke competition that Reef Radio, in conjunction with Coral Cable Vision, hosted. Seven contestants sang their hearts out, but at the end of the night, Carlos Montejo emerged as the grand winner.
It may have been the closest competition yet and by the end of the night the judges had the unenviable task of choosing between the seven entertaining singers. Ernesto Caliz, Noel Wiltshire, Jaime Manzano, Virginia Melendez, Carlos Montejo, Melissa Muņoz, and Rolando Albeņo all endured three rounds of tough competition, and the panel of judges were fair and keen in choosing a winner.
During the three rounds, the male contestants wooed the ladies with their melodic voices with songs from various artists, including Los Temerarios, while the ladies performed beautiful renditions of songs from artists like Selena and Whitney Houston.
From the start of the show, the crowd favorite, Carlos Montejo managed to work the crowd and by the third round, had left them begging for more. The judges for this grand event were Xenia Roberts, Sergio Gomez, David Aguilar, Claudia Haylock and Michael Castillo.
After the judges tabulated their scores, it was finally the time to crown a winner. Third place went to Ernesto Caliz, 2nd place to Melissa Muņoz and to a suspenseful drum roll, the first place winner was announced, and it was Carlos Montejo. The crowd went wild and confetti filled the club. Carlos, being the crowd favorite, quite willingly took the stage once again to sing a close out song.
In an interview with The San Pedro Sun Reef Radio's Director Eiden Salazar stated the following, "We plan to make this a yearly event and something to look forward to." Carlos Montejo won a collection of prizes, including a SMART cell phone, a brand new barbeque grill and a $1,000 in cash.
The management and staff of the Reef Radio, Coral Cable Vision and the Jaguar's Temple Night Club would like to give a big thanks to all those who made this year's competition such a "runaway" success. Next year's competition will be held the week after the Costa Maya festivities.
