The thirteenth annual Belikin Spectacular Blue Water Fishing Tournament was held in San Pedro over the weekend of October 8th. The Belize Yacht Club hosted the event, which proved to be full of fun and excitement for all. Anglers from San Pedro, as well as from other areas of the country participated in the tournament, which boasted over $100,000 in prizes.
Both days of the event proved to be fruitful for the participants, but the winning fish, a 43 lb Sailfish, was weighed-in late on Sunday afternoon. The proud fisherman, Abel Rodriguez, Jr., along with the crew of “Had To Have It” were eager to see how his catch faired in the competition, as another Sailfish, caught by Chito Guerro, had just weighed in at 41 lbs. Another big catch of the day that impressed the abundant crowd was the 25 lb Wahoo, caught by Andrew Roe. The crowd waited in anticipation as the final weigh-in was recorded, and Rodriguez and crew were delighted to learn that their Sailfish topped the scales!
The weekend festivities ended in a buffet dinner and award ceremony held at the Belize Yacht Club on Sunday night. The San Pedro Sun congratulates all who participated, and thanks Belikin for holding such an exciting annual event.
