A parade was also held with the colorful costumes of the Garifuna brightening the streets of San Pedro
In the weeks leading up to the grand day, San Pedro Garifunas held several activities to promote this national holiday. Part of the festivities included 2 pageants, wherein Elisha Gonzalez was selected as Miss Garifuna San Pedro, and Bertha Calderon was chosen as Miss Garifuna Yumen.
The R.C. School also held an open day with several presentations on the Garifuna culture. All schools were invited to view the presentations, and children of all grades and ages presented some fantastic projects.
These fun filled activities involved great music, food and dancing, and they all culminated on the official day, November 19th, 2005, when the celebrations came into full swing, with the early morning re-enactment of the arrival, followed by day-long celebration. Happy Garifuna Settlement Day!
