Press Release – North Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch – December 12th, 2005 – Isla Bonita businesses and individuals were credited extensively in a gala awards ceremony on December 10th at the Memorial Park, Belize City. Pioneers in community policing efforts from throughout the nation were honored by the National Neighborhood Watch Program.
Mushrooming community efforts to reduce crime, and improve neighborhoods were recognized with awards, dramatic performances by Police Performing Art Club, and a musical piece written and performed for Neighborhood Watch by Chico Ramos, the popular Belizean musician.
North Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch (NACNW) President Natalie Palen, accepted an award for NACNW, one of the first programs established in Belize. Tropic Air, CEO Steve Schulte, and Executive Secretary Dora Gonzalez were individually honored for their countrywide efforts to help the crime fighting program.
San Pedro residents Doug Campbell (Oasis RO), and Jules Escalante (Ambergris Caye Chamber of Commerce) were recognized for their nationwide contribution. NACNW Vice President Pat Stiley accepted awards for South Ambergris Caye, and Coconut Drive Neighborhood Watch.
Audrey Pascasio (National Task Force Chairperson), Superintendent Yolanda Murray (Commander, Community Policing), and Joseph Sampson (National Coordinator) encouraged all communities to form, support, and join Neighborhood Watch groups, described as essential to the restoration and preservation of traditional Belizean community values.
Police dignitaries and Police Constables across the nation were recognized for their individual efforts to work with neighborhood groups to thwart crime. NACNW acknowledged the special off-duty contributions of San Pedro P.C. 900, Dwayne McCullough and P.C. 923 Gerald Sutherland.
