The Boogie in Belize II Skydiver Rally is over, but before these
visitors left, they managed to contribute to many local causes. Perhaps the
most exciting on the list was the donation of a tandem skydive to the
Director of the local Humane Society (SAGA) Simon Backley. Always seeking
ways to raise money for veterinary services in San Pedro, Simon devised a
raffle to see how close he could land to a bullseye laid out in the landing
field by the staff from Coco Locos. Sunday afternoon, Simon took the leap,
and while he landed just five feet short of the bulls eye, over $1000 was
raised for SAGA. Chris Eager from Casa Picasso was the lucky winner of the
raffle, and true-to-form, donated his winnings back to SAGA.
Regarding the jump, Simon says, "I still can't get the grin off my face.
I could easily get addicted to jumping, what an incredible experience."
Special thanks to Rich Grimm and Tsunami Skydivers for donating the
jump. The group also donated schools supplies, and according to Grimm, his
group probably spent over $300,000 in the community during their stay.
