|Not only did the children get to play dress up – they also got a time to honor the saints and know the history behind All Saints Day. |
The Roman Catholic School held its All Saints Day fair on Friday at the school grounds. The fair was open to the pubic and hundreds of people made it to enjoy the great foods, drinks, and mingle with the people. For entertainment, there were fun and classic games like fish pond, tombola, paddle and dice and more which seemed to be a hit with the children.
All Saints day honors all saints of the church, even those not known by name. Although its is observed in November 2nd worldwide, the school found it convenient to host their fair on the Friday before. Several children dressed up as their saint of choice and participated in their costume contest.
With their outfits teeming with creativity, great prizes were given to the top ten best costumes; first prize was won by Magali Lopez who represented Saint Rita. Runner up winner was Ariel Muñoz (Pope John Paul II), Solani Graniel (Mother Theresa), Thais Martin (Lady of Fatima), Angelee Forman (St. Veronica), Diandra Kay (St. Dymphna), Alisandro Vasquez (Sacred Heart of Jesus), Kasia Reyes (Virgin of Guadalupe), Lagi Nuñez (John the Baptist), and Rowel Tun (St. Jude). Out of numerous “angel” outfits, Divia Ezra won best costume in that category. Other participants received consolidation prizes from several generous businesses for their participating. The turnout was fantastic according to Principal of RC school, Roxanni Kay, “we had a very good response this year, the parents and their kids came out and enjoyed the games, food, entertainment, etc.” Kay further stated that the purpose for the fair was to raise funds to build a library for the kids of the school. A total of $6,188 was made in profit, therefore, all monies collected will go towards constructing a new library at the school campus above the newly built bathrooms.
On behalf of the school, special thanks is extended to all sponsors of the event; Ultimate Golf Cart Rentals, Papi’s Diner, Mickey’s Place, Manuel Heredia Jr, Topaz Jewelry, Cocina Caramba, Elvi’s Kitchen, Mel Spain, Moncho’s Golf Carts and Polo’s Carts. The fair proved successful once again for the school; not only did the kids get to play dress up – they also got a time to honor the saints and know the history behind All Saints Day.
