A fire in San Pedro Town partially destroyed a two storage building in the DFC Subdivision. According to the Second in Charge of the San Pedro Fire Department, Miguel Medina, the Fire Department received an urgent call informing them of a fire at approximately 12:22 a.m. on January 21st, 2009. Police along with the San Pedro Fire Department responded to the scene where upon arrival they observed a two storey partially wooden and concrete structure with its southern portion engulfed in flames. The fire department managed to control the fire but the lower flat which houses a grocery shop (“One Love Grocery Store”) received damages.
The lower flat of the building where the store is located was occupied by business man Mohammed Harmouch and the owner of the building, Francisco Arceo. The upper flat of the building was occupied by Police Constable David Jimenez.
The lower flat of the building receive extensive damage while the upper flat received smoke and water damage. Harmouch estimates his damage at $40, 000 while Arceo estimates his damage at $63, 000 BZ.
According to the Fire Department, preliminary investigation suggests that the fire initiated inside the apartment of Francisco Arceo situated at the southeastern end of the building. Fire Personnel are still investigating the incident to determine the cause of fire.
