On Friday, February 27th, the San Pedro Town Council cut the ribbon for the second section of the street rehabilitation project. Councilor Joseph Elijio was the Master of Ceremonies and the event took place on Angel Coral Street. Mayor Elsa Paz addressed the crowd and in her speech stated that the street rehabilitation project is a testament that the Town Council has the people at heart. Invited guest speaker was Jorge Santos, who praised the Mayor and her Town Council for the fulfillment of the project. Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Honorable Manuel Heredia also took to the podium, stating that he stands by his commitment to assist the Town Council in projects that will improve the living conditions of the people of San Pedro.
Along with the street inauguration, the Mayor also took the opportunity to introduce the new street sweeper that was obtained for the island as a direct result of San Pedro’s sister relationship with Wilmington, Virginia, USA. She also announced that the Mayor of San Salvador City in El Salvador has promised the San Pedro Town Council a water tank truck that will help wet the streets. In addition, the Mayor confirmed to The San Pedro Sun that a second street sweeper should be on the island within the next two weeks and will be utilized to sweep the side walks.
Mayor Paz announced that the survey phase of the street rehabilitation from the round-a-about to the bridge on Laguna Drive has begun and the laying of the cobblestones should start by the end of March or early April.
