Couples and friends danced through the night to the music of Rompe Raja.

Last Friday night, the San Pedro Lions Club held their installation ceremonies for the upcoming Board of Directors for the fiscal year of 2009-2010. Installed that night as the new president was Lion Melanie Paz, Lion Jorge Aldana as Secretary, Lion Abel Guerrero as Treasurer while Lion Marina Kay is the new Membership Chairman.

    Numerous friends joined the members at the Lions Den to celebrate this special occasion for the Lions of San Pedro. Lion Jorge Aldana served as the Master of Ceremonies for the official part of the program and welcomed all to a most happy event. Lion Abel Guerrero, Lay Minister of the San Pedro Roman Catholic Church led the gathering with a prayer and outgoing President Lion Eiden Salazar gave his end of the year report. He stated that the Lions of San Pedro have contributed greatly to the growth of Ambergris Caye and highlighted the many activities, fundraisers and assistance that was given and offered throughout the year.

    Lion Baldemar Graniel, incoming Zone Chairman of the Belize Lions made the honors of officially inducting the new board of directors of the club. He went on to call on the new board members reminding them of their responsibilities as part of the board. Lion Graniel read each of the duties of the chosen directors as a reminder of the important task they had spearheading the club. ďThis is an important and meaningful event and I would like to remind the members that the club is only as strong as its members. The Board does not make the club.Ē

    Lion Melanie Paz took to the podium and gave her acceptance speech where she asked for the support of all the members for a fruitful year. She stated that a calendar of events has already been drafted up and members are asked to continue supporting the club. She stated that a new website for the San Pedro Lions Club has been uploaded and people are asked to view it at

    Guest Speaker for the night was Janet Brown who highlighted the great works that Lions achieve worldwide. Throughout the ceremony, awards were handed out to Lions who were active during the last fiscal year, Lion Zone 59 Queen Alexis Guerrero was introduced and following the official part of the night, finger food and music from Rompe Raja concluded the night.
