The San Pedro Christmas Lighted Boat Parade committee members presented checks to two island organization and one school on Tuesday, January 12th, at the San Pedro Town Council offices. After a successful boat parade last year, the committee managed to pay their expenses while profits were donated to the benefit of the community.

Donations were handed out to the San Pedro AIDS Commission in the sum of $1,500 while Holy Cross Anglican School and the Calendar Girls committee received $750 each. Receiving the check on behalf of the AIDS Commission was President Felix Ayuso who explained that the monies will go toward their education campaign. “The check will also help to refurbish our signs both at the San Pedro Roman Catholic School and at the San Pedro High School. Education is important when it comes to AIDS Awareness,” explained Ayuso. Mrs. Francis Wilson received the check on behalf of Holy Cross Anglican School and commented that the money will go toward the school’s feeding program. “As people know, we feed 500 students every day. They receive breakfast, a fruit snack and lunch daily. This money is greatly appreciated.” On behalf of the Calendar Girls Club was Eve Dirnback who stated that the money will go towards the completion of the San Pedro Roman Catholic School cafeteria. “It is great to see that that project is coming closer and closer to completion. Soon the students will have someplace in their school grounds where they can go and enjoy a delicious and healthy lunch,” she expressed.

“It is a way of giving back to the community that made this year’s Boat Parade a success,” commented Chairlady of the committee Jan Brown. “It has been a tough few months and businesses still gave from their heart and we just wanted to share the little bit of profit we made with the community,” she ended.
