The judging and awarding of prizes for the winning entries in the San Pedro Lions Club International Peace Poster contest took place Friday, December 5, 1997 at the Lions Den. Students from St. Peter's Elementary School, Maestro Reyes School of Knowledge and the San Pedro Roman Catholic School were invited to enter the contest. The winning poster from San Pedro will be sent to compete with entries from Lions Clubs around the world. About thirty posters were entered from St. Peter's and Maestro Reyes' students. The judges for the contest were Mrs. Gloria Guerrero, Mrs. Jennie Pinelo and Mr. Donald Conners. Lion Guadalupe Montejo was the coordinator for the event. Rhiannan Grief, who was a finalist in last year's contest captured the first place prize of $200 from the San Pedro Town Board and a return ticket to Belize City from Tropic Air. Second place went to Roxanna Bradley. She was awarded a $100 savings account from the Belize Bank and a $50 gift certificate from Martha's Store. Alfredo Maria placed third and won a $100 savings account from the Atlantic Bank and a 3 hour golf cart rental from Polo's Golf Cart Rentals. Kelly Eiley placed fourth and for her efforts received a $100 gift certificate from Fina's Store. Marcita Gonzalez received a $50 gift certificate from Ramon's Village as the fifth place winner. A $50 gift certificate from Island Best was presented to Ricardo Pech, the sixth place winner. Giany Iglesias won seventh place and received a $50 gift certificate from Milo's Store and Dimas Guerrero who was awarded eighth place won a $50 gift certificate from D&G Jewelry and Art.
