Lackluster!! That's a good description for the first forty minutes of play. Jube came out with a strict man to man formation and was sending the ball into the air time and time again to which the Dolphins followed suit, and the result was a very boring and ineffective game for both teams.
Jube got the first opportunity at goal when Pelayo beat Bonny to the ball which Bonny had tried to foul instead of letting the striker go to the goal uncontested. A spotkick was awarded but the shot went wide. San Pedro got its first opportunity in the tenth minute from a corner kick that Pancho dropped smack into the center where John Trapp let go a bullet that went off the mark. That was the dynamics of the game until the forty minute mark when San Pedro appeared to wake up and exerted unrelenting pressure on Jube's defense. The first half ended with both teams getting their opportunities but failing to capitalize.
The new coach, Mr. Jose Luis Torres, sat down with his players at the half and made some adjustments for the upcoming forty minutes and the team went back on the field with a new sense of direction. But before the game could start there was an added feature at the stadium when a swarm of bees flew through and made almost everyone hit the deck; John Brooks, being the first, giving rise to concern he was playing under observation due to the injury he suffered in our game against Juventus. When the game resumed at the two minute mark, Landy broke loose in the middle and took a shot at the goal that rebounded and Oscar came in and took it on the rebound and glanced it off a defender. Ten minutes later Landy broke loose again, this time on the right wing, beat his man and centered the ball to John Trapp who closed in on the overlap through the middle and threw himself on the pitch unleashing on the ball from a parallel position to mark one of the most beautiful goals that can be seen in football since many players try for it but everything has to come out right for it to work, and for John it did work. After this goal San Pedro went on top and pressured so much that Jube started playing hard and rough which resulted in Bonny and John getting injured. At the eighteen minute mark Bonny was replaced with Carlos Briceno and Bonzo came in for Pancho at the nineteen minute mark. Jube got their only real good opportunity in the twenty fourth minute when their striker beat Walter and took a shot at Brooks but it went over the crossbar. Al and crew handled the Jube artillery well stopping every incursion they mounted. As the minutes passed the fans started getting their money's worth because both teams were playing far better than in the first half. Thirty three minutes into the half, Landy controlled the ball in the middle area and dribbled past his man and shot to the goal where the last defender, realizing that his keeper was out of position and beaten, desperately tried to block the shot but it had too much power for him and it deflected off him and into the goal for a two nil lead for the Dolphins. Four minutes later Landy again made himself felt when he lobbed a pass to the streaking John Trapp on his right which John controlled and rams it hard to the goal where the keeper stretched for all he was worth but had to look at the ball as it beats him and shakes the net for the final score to give the Dolphins three more points to close off this year with a big win and sent the team home happy for the Christmas Holidays.
We would like to make mention that this trip was only possible through the kind help of Mr. Armando Graniel and family who loaned the money for the expenses of the trip. The team is well on its way to the championship but we need all the financial help we can get from the business community to take us through this month that we do not have home games to generate money to pay the players. So if anyone comes to you for a donation, please help with whatever you can afford. Let's show our love for this group of guys that are making us proud, and thank you for all the help you have already given. Merry Christmas!!! From all the CREW of the San Pedro Dolphins.
