Press Release - Ambergris Historical Society - The Board of the Ambergris Historical Society met Sunday 29th March to discuss progress in the Ambergris Museum project and future activities of the Society It was agreed that whilst the long term aims of the Society include programs to preserve and develop the cultural life of San Pedro, the immediate need is to see the Museum established on a more stable financial basis. In response to a significant number of general enquiries from visitors to the Museum, the introduction of a free tourist information service is being planned to satisfy this recognised need of visitors to the island. A further announcement about the development of this service is expected soon.
Meanwhile, the Historical Society is recruiting new members to serve on the Board and guide the Museum through its infancy. Chair of the Society, Lliani Lopez Paz, said: "Setting up a museum of which we can be proud was only the beginning. The real challenge is to keep what we have achieved a growing and viable project independent of government, whatever the color. In some ways the most satisfying part of the project is yet to come."
