At one time or another, many of us have seen ourselves running around trying to complete last minute details for that important event. Whether it be a birthday party, wedding or social gathering, we know how stressful it can be when the decorations were not how you had pictured or the food is not ready on time. Even forgetting your cake in the oven, because you are running around making sure everything is ready before your guests arrive. In San Pedro, many of us are thankful to two new businesses that have alleviated this unnecessary stress. All this can now be remedied with just a quick phone call to Mrs. Rocio Cardona of Alebran's Originals and Alebran's Delights.
Rocio Aguilar was born in Belize City to Sandra Lopez (Sanpedrana) and Mr. Eduardo Aguilar. She attended St. Catherine's Elementary and High School, graduating in 1983. She continued her education in Jacksonville, Florida, USA where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Marketing in 1987. Rocio then took further interest in formalizing her all time favorite hobby - catering - and successfully completed a course in the hotel industry and catering, which encompassed areas such as sales, public relations, food preparation, guest handling and cake decoration.
While living in Florida, Rocio held positions at different local establishments in capacities as sales manager, public relations and marketing manager. During her spare time, she continued catering with special dedication to small weddings and cake decoration.
In 1993, Rocio moved back to Belize and immediately put her expertise to work. She worked at the Radisson Fort George as Sales/Marketing Manager and then at the Ramada Hotel as Public Relations Officer. Rocio is married to Mr. Gildardo Cardona, Manager of Atlantic Bank Limited, San Pedro Branch, and together they have two children, Alejandro and Brandon. Their names coincidentally created the birth of ALEBRAN'S. After her husband was transferred to San Pedro in March of 1997, Mrs. Cardona eventually made the move and joined her husband in July of the same year.
After a few months of observing how parties and functions are carried out on the island, Mrs. Cardona decided to initiate a party supply shop and opened Alebran's Originals in January 1998. The basic aim for this type of store was to provide the community with a complete line of party supplies specializing in children's favorite cartoon characters. She decided to also include stock for weddings, baby showers, bridal showers and other special occasions that each have their special month or date. The public's response to the new novelty shop in town was well received and soon the store added an assortment of gifts for all occasions. Alebran's Originals, under careful supervision of Mrs. Cardona soon became the place to make a celebration a big hit. The shop provides a wide assortment of party supplies, party favors, balloons, piñatas, site decorations, cakes and party rentals, as well as entertainment from characters such as Winnie the Pooh, Rugrats, Tweety, Clowns and Santa Claus. Alebran's Originals is known countrywide as well, since the store has the largest selection of party supplies in Belize and takes pleasure in providing customers with party supplies and cakes in Belize City, Corozal, Orange Walk, Dangriga and San Ignacio.
After just one year of operation, Alebran's Originals expanded its services to include Alebran's Delights. Mrs. Cardona's catering skills were put to the test and she passed with flying colors. Alebran's Delights is one of San Pedro's newest delis offering an assortment of fast foods, snacks and pastries. Full catering is available from this shop whether for a small get-together, wedding or a special celebration. With a total of six full-time employees, both Alebran's Originals and Alebran's Delights provide the community with a wide variety of services. Mrs. Cardona told the San Pedro Sun, "It is a challenge DAILY to fulfill our customers' requests as they vary so much and all the same it has been our pleasure to know that together we have satisfied many with our exceptional services. No job is too little or too large."
In just the two years that Mrs. Cardona's businesses have been on the island, she has made it easier for many satisfied customers. From her fine selection of party supplies to her exquisite catering goodies, Mrs. Cardona is truly an ORIGINAL and a DELIGHT in "Our Community."
