Natalie Palen

The following appeared as an donated advertisment on the front page of this week's San Pedro Sun. Natalie Hancock Palen has been the nurse for doctors in San Pedro for many years now. She worked for Dr. Roberto Torres and now for Dr. Dan Gonzalez. Natalie is a registered nurse, a specialist in neo-natal care and a midwife; she and Dr. Dan have delivered many, many babies in San Pedro in addition to maintaining a family practice. Natalie is paid $200 per week - in Belize dollars, or $100 per week U.S. dollars. When that is all you earn, you can't afford health insurance. Natalie has no health insurance and her friends in the community are gathering together to help her meet the medical and other expenses she will face in the next few weeks.

Natalie Palen, local nurse, left on Thursday to receive medical treatment in Houston after being diagnosed with cancer of the breast. She has no health insurance, and in addition to medical expenses is faced with travel, lodging and other expenses. This community knows what Nurse Natalie has done for the community. She has touched all of our lives.

It is now time to help Natalie!

Entertainment (most all the locals - Dennis Wolfe, Tim Budd, etc.) will be at the park, Donated food and drinks will be for sale and games for the kids will be available.

In addition, donations may be left at Fido's Courtyard.
