Islanders Claim League Lead

On Sunday 4th August, the San Pedro Football Club played their final game against the Yabra Football Club in San Pedro at Ambergris Stadium. The game was an important one as it marked the close of the regular season. The homeboys needed to catch up to Real Verdes who were leading the league with 32 points. They had to win. The Island Boys needed to have one thing in mind when they stepped out on the field and that was TO WIN.

That they did, for in the first fifteen minutes of the first half San Pedro scored its first goal. That goal was scored by Oliver Hendricks. It was not too long after that the second goal was scored in San Pedro’s favour and this was scored by Orlando Pinelo. Both these goals were magnificent, unstoppable goals. The Islanders were dead serious about going into the semi-finals as leaders of the regular season. This they managed to do for at the end of game time the final score was San Pedro 2 and Yabra 0. Yellow cards for this game were picked up by Oliver Hendricks and Raul “Coco” Gonzalez. Yabra player Roaches was ejected from the game when he was red carded in the second half.

In other games Juventus played against Corozal in Orange Walk Town on Sunday, August 4th. Juventus won over Corozal with the final score being 3 - 2. Acros played against Jube and was victorious with the final score being 3 - 1.

The standings are as follows: 1st San Pedro Football Club with 32 points, 2nd Real Verdes with 32 points, 3rd Juventus Caribbean with 27 points and 4th Acros Duurly’s with 25 points points.

On August 11th, the first two games of the semi-finals will be played. San Pedro Football Club and Acros will play at Ambergris Stadium. The second game will be played between Real Verdes and Juventus Caribbean in Cayo. The dates and places for the other 6 games in the semi-finals will be announced later by the Belize Football League.
