The welcome address was given by the Mayor of San Pedro, His Worship Alberto Nuñez, who said, "Today is a special day but most people here would agree with me that everyday is Mother's Day". Miss Chiquitita 1996/97 Jean Seruntine and Miss Chiquitita 1997/98 Yanine Ruiz entertained the audience after which several games were played such as Hug Me and Musical Chairs.

Chairlady of the Mother's Day Committee, Mrs. Violeta Iglesias gave the thank you address after which a Steel Band provided musical entertainment during a short interlude. The evening's main entertainer was Choco Mil, a Mexican impersonator. Choco brought a hilarious group of singers and entertainers with him from Merida, Mexico. The Caribbean Shells provided the music for the Mother's Day Dance which ended the evenings activities.

Every 15 minutes a prize was raffled; over 60 prizes donated by local businesses were given away. Mrs. Alba Hoare was chosen as Mother of the Year. The oldest mother was Elvira, the youngest mother was Mirtha Rivero and the mother with the most children was Sonia Caliz who has 11 children.

The San Pedro Town Board would like to extend a big thank you to all the businesses and individuals who contributed to the Mother's Day Program, whether it was by giving money, a prize or just giving freely of their time. The evening would not have been as successful without your help.
