Preparations for the International Sea and Air Festival are still underway and along with it are the preparations for the Reina De La Costa Maya International Pageant, in which five beautiful ladies from all the representative countries will compete for the crown.

Representing the country of Belize this year will be twenty year old, Gaylene Desiree Dawson of Belize City. Born on the 11th of October, 1976, Dawson has lived all her life in Belize City where she finished her tertiary level education in June of 1996 at St. John's College Sixth Form with an associate's degree in business administration. After graduation Dawson obtained a job with the construction company Keir International and shortly after worked for Sonat Offshore Drilling. Dawson just arrived from the United States where she was vacationing.

"I went to the US. with my relatives for some time off to decide what I want to do with my future," said Dawson, "I was still uncertain which field in business I wanted to peruse." Dawson has decided to come back to Belize and continue her studies in business administration at UCB.

"Right now I am preparing myself for the pageant and I am putting a lot of time into it. I believe that I will make a good candidate for my country Belize," said Dawson. Dawson says that she is confident that she will do a good job for she has had experience in beauty pageants. She ran for Miss Belize in 1996. She does volunteer work for fashion shows in Belize City and invests a lot of her time doing charity work for the YMCA.

Dawson hopes that she will get the support of her fellow Belizeans at the pageant. She says that she will do her best to make her country proud.

"I am going into the pageant with a positive attitude. Winning isn't everything, but I will do my best. I am happy to be representing Belize at this year's Sea and Air Festival."
