Charlotte Romero visits San Pedro

Charlotte Romero, Costa Maya Contestant

The Belize representative for the Reina de la Costa Maya Beauty Pageant, Miss Charlotte Romero, visited San Pedro over the weekend of Saturday, March 21st to begin her training and to meet her chaperons.

Charlotte is 22 years old and is originally from Corozal. She is presently a Biology and Integrated Science teacher at the Corozal Community College. She was Miss Corozal 1994 and was first runner up in the Miss Queen of the Bay Pageant 1994.

The San Pedro International Costa Maya Festival committee members in charge of the pageant asked Charlotte to represent Belize in the beauty pageant three years ago but she declined. The committee asked her again this year and was pleased when she agreed to participate. Charlotte said that she was skeptical about participating because she thought she was too old; but, that issue was put to rest, as the pageant's regulations require contestants to be at least 18 years of age and hold a title.

Charlotte has been to San Pedro several times on vacation and thinks that San Pedro is a beautiful place; she loves the bright sunshine and the friendly people who have always made her feel at home. Charlotte said that she decided to be a contestant because of the exposure and the valuable information about the Maya Mundo countries she will acquire. She added that she was proud and honored to have been chosen by the committee to represent Belize and that she would do her very best.

Ms. Adelita Bouloy and Ms. Dolly Guerrero are Charlotte's chaperons and Mr. Malcolm Hitchcock her trainer. Contestants from the other countries will be featured in upcoming issues of the paper. The contestants will arrive in San Pedro on July 13th, 1998, one week before the actual pageant.
