Scholarships to San Pedro students

Victoria Collins presents a San Pedro Foundation scholarship to Mariana Ancona

The San Pedro Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to undertaking projects that benefit the community of San Pedro has granted three two years scholarships to San Pedro students.

The Foundation scholarships of $3,200 Bz are awarded to students who have graduated high school and been accepted to institutions of higher learning. The scholarships are awarded in increments of $800 per semester and are contingent on the student achieving a passing grade average.

Karen Martinez, a 1997 graduate of San Pedro High, Mariana Ancona a 1997 graduate of St. John's College, and Olive Eiley a 1996 graduate of San Pedro High are this year's scholarship recipients. The Foundation's first scholarship was awarded last year to Alex Noralez, a San Pedro High graduate who continued his education in the United States.

The San Pedro Foundation receives contributions from visitors to the island who want to contribute to the welfare of the community as well as local people. A fund raising bar-b-que is held annually. In addition to offering scholarships, the Foundation has contributed to the R.C.School, the San Pedro Library and other community efforts.

Donations to the San Pedro Foundation are gladly received. Please send them to San Pedro Foundation, P.O. Box 35, San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, Belize, Central America. E-mail may be sent care of [email protected].
