TACA International Airlines - Grand Sponsor of 1997 Sea & Air Festival ... El Salvador, Mexico and Guatemala announce performers


Mr. Tony Diaz of TACA International Airlines today confirmed that Central America's largest air carrier will for the sixth year participate as the Grand Sponsor of the festival. TACA has been closely involved with the festival since its inception in 1992 and over the years has carried hundred of musician and dancers from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador to participate in Central America's only festival that celebrates the common cultures of the Mundo Maya countries. This year TACA has pledged ½ price tickets with positive space for the visiting performers. In addition to transporting performers, TACA is donating a round trip ticket to the winner of La Reina de la Costa Maya pageant which takes place on the festival's opening night.

Confirmations for the Sea and Air Festival's performers have begun and the Mundo Maya countries along with the Sea and Air Festival committee are working hard to bring the top artists and entertainers that they have to boast of their county's talent. Preparations are still underway and as the list of performers grows, the festival committee will keep the public informed.

Tuesday, August 19th, Salvador Night

Salvador Night will burst into action with Do Mayor, a ten member band, bringing Salvador's live and exciting salsa music. There will be cultural performances by a twelve member cultural dance group. Returning again will be the arts and craft booth, displaying Salvador's handcrafts and souvenirs. This night will also bring five beautiful ladies from the five Mundo Maya representative countries to compete for the crown of the Reina De La Costa Maya International.

Wednesday, August 20th, Mexico Night

This night promises to bring out the Mexican spirit in all of us with the appearance of the Mariachi group. Bonanza Airlines is sponsoring the appearance of the 8 mariachis plus a singer to entertain the crowd with the ever popular and distinctive sounds of the Mexican Mariachi. El Estado de Quintana Roo will bring their folkloric dancers to entertain us with an array of music, dance and colorful costumes. Scheduled is a well known Mexican band. More details next week.

Friday, August 22nd, Guatemala Night

Guatemala has confirmed the presence of Los Unicornios, one of their most popular bands. INGUAT dancers will once again be performing in the colorful cultural dances of Guatemala.

On Tuesday, June 3rd, the Sea and Air Festival committee met 7:30 at the courtyard of Paradise Resort. The layout for the festival grounds was discussed, booths will be on sale shortly. The mechanical games for the children and the "ever-so young at heart" will be on the festival grounds throughout the six days, tickets will be priced at one, two and three dollars, affordable to everyone.

The Sea & Air Festival committee meets every Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the courtyard of Paradise Resort. Volunteers are welcomed to attend and any questions can be taken to the Sea & Air Festival office downstairs in the rear of the Town Hall. For any information call the office at 026-3016.
