The 5th Belikin Bluewater Fishing Tournament was held on Oct. 11th and 12th at Blackbird Caye, Turneffe Island, Belize. There were 24 boats entered with 146 registered anglers. Prizes were awarded for the heaviest blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, wahoo, kingfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado, and barracuda. This years heaviest blue marlin was caught by Dr. Henry Hoy, of Belize City, on the boat "Recovery Room", weighing in at 188.5 lbs. Second heaviest blue was caught by Shelly Bradley, of Belize City, on Capt. Tom's All-Girl boat "Sea Boots". It weighed 176.5 lbs., excluding the red bikini panties the fish wore when brought in for the weigh-in. Third heaviest blue weighing 122 lbs. was caught by Dee Ann Musa, of Belize City, on "Oh Mami." Top boat prize was captured by "Sea Sport I", 2nd boat was taken by "Sea Boots" and "Lara" won 4th boat prize money. On Sunday night with the tournament concluded, Blackbird Resort hosted the award barbecue and dance. Where the music and laughter could be heard far out to sea, and the dancing went on into the wee hours of the morning. Although this tournament, sponsored by Belize Brewing Company Ltd., is the most popular, the Belize Fishing Association puts on several fishing tournaments throughout the year. These tournaments are open to anyone who wants to enter. There are several boats in Belize like "Sea Boots" that can be chartered for these events and foreign vessels are welcomed as well.
