Been on a number of longrange trips, looks authentic to me.

In the 70's my room-mate and I caught a 710 LB Bluefin in his boat kept in Gloucester MA, offshore at Georges Bank.
He grew up with the "Perfect Storm" crew.
This was not exceptionally large for a Bluefin back then.
It was surprisingly easy to catch, small boat "commercial style".
A large baited hook was suspended from a big rubber ball on hemp rope, like those used to mark moorings.
The fish tuckered itself out, trying to dive and drag the thing down, then was easy to haul in by hand.
We had to rope it and tow it all the way in, no way to get it aboard old 32 foot wood boat.

There was a cut the locals called the "Brain", 10 LBS or so of tenderloin-like meat, up near the head.
It was roasted like prime rib, best fish I ever ate to date.

Here's my problem with the initially posted pic, which makes me a little suspicious. Check the shadow to the right of the fish. The angle of the light source appears to be at a right angle to the boat and fish. However, look at the fin shadow, relative to the positioning of the fish......90 degrees off. Hmmmm.......

Good point......the fin shadow also appears to be larger (wider) than the fin.

I'm happier than a pig in s__t...a foot on the sand...and a Belikin in my hand!

I use photoshop everyday so took a good look at this picture and I see a pool of blood behind the fish on the right. It looks like the guy has some blood on his legs. Although you can photoshop shadows, the shadows from his legs on the fish look real enough. The fin shadow should look larger than the fin as the sun is coming from the left. This may be a true fish story...

klc...Re: light source and shadow the light source is above and at a slight angle to the stern, look at his head reflection on the skin of the fish, and his leg refelction/shadow. The fin shadow you're looking at, and questioning on the deck is from the pectoral fin not the dorsal...that's easy to misinterpret.

Honestly, there are just too many real photgraphs like this one. Now if he were holding the Loch Ness monster I might be more suspiscious and inclined to agree with you. Look at any long range fishing charter company say out of San Diego at their galleries. Fishermans Landing, or Point Loma. Tons of pics like these.

Believe what you want but I see nothing unusual. I've held fish in this position before. Its very easy to balance them on their nose...my biggest question on this photo is not whether its real but on which side of Baja it was caught...off the sea mounts south west of Puerto Vallarta or in the Pacific off the banks or the point south of Cabo...

Is it really that hard to congratulate someone for a fine catch without alleging a doctored photograph? It's beyond incivility to argue guilty until proven innocent.
