Portofino: Belizean Resort with European Flare

Portofino is a Belizean resort, with European flare. The resort is
located six miles north of San Pedro, opposite to the Mexico Rocks, a
magnificent area for snorkeling and diving because of the colorful
juvenile fish and beautiful canyon-like coral formations.

Italian for "final destination," Portofino is owned by Jan and Sandra
Van Nord, originally from The Netherlands. Access to Portofino is by
boat only, and therefore the resort offers complimentary pickup
service at the San Pedro Airstrip and boat transfer to the resort, an
approximately 15 minutes ride. Portofino also offers free boat
service to San Pedro for its guests, several times per day.

The Belize reef is only 1/2 mile (800 meters) from the Portofino
beach: in fact, you can see it from the resort. Needless to say,
excellent diving, snorkeling, and fishing begin right from the
Portofino dock.

Portofino's restaurant, La Cuisine, is fast becoming recognized for
its upscale Nouvelle cuisine. La Cuisine specializes in European
dishes, ranging from Italian to Mediterranean. The kaleidoscope of
menu items includes classics such as farm-raised Canard a L'Orange to
Brochetta di Gamberetti e Conchiferi al Champagne which boasts some of
the sea's finest.

Before dinner (or at any time of day) try a cool drink at the Green
Parrot Bar. The name is not by accident: This was the name of the old
lodge that used to be here. Although Portofino is completely different
than the former Green Parrot, the Van Nords say they don't want to
forget the history of this piece of paradise.

The resort consists of eight beachfront cabanas, two treetop suites
(perfect for families or groups) and one honeymoon suite. Portofino
can arrange inland tours, and offers diving, fishing, and honeymoon
packages.
