Small point luv2travl, your stated mileages are actually from Central Park in the middle of town rather than the river cut which is almost a mile north of town.

Since budget is a concern and nobody has so far mentioned them here's a shout for The Tides. Small eight room one suite family run hotel, easy walk to and from town yet nice quiet area, all rooms face the beach, pool, breakfast, great little bar and an excellent Dive Shop on location that's cheaper than most.

You want to scuba dive. Then consider Amigos del Mar, which is located a step or 4 from Mayan Princess. You like to frequent local establishments, most of which are only a step or 4 from Mayan Princess. You will meet so many people at Amigos and Cholos and Fidos which are all just a step or so from one another. You generally want to have fun and do all those other things, then I'm sticking with my recommendation . . Mayan Princess. The patios are fabulous and the place is perfectly situated for all of the things you say you like to do and all right in the price range you seek.

Thanks for the further recommendations. I've checked out Blue Tang (love the Key West look of this place laugh ) and Mayan Princess and for high season it looks like the prices are in the $165-$170 range. Based on the great recommendations and price, I think at this point I'm leaning towards Woodys.

Seashell, I've read some great things about Amigos for diving ... we could still go with them even if we are staying at Woodys, right?

Again, I appreciate the input!

Hi Beth,

My husband and I are avid divers and have stayed at Ramon's and at Capt. Morgan's. We always dive with Amigos. They'll arrange for pick-ups and will store your gear for you if you want. Fabulous crew - very friendly and professional.

We're returning to AC for the third time this November. We'll surely post our dive pictures to wet your appetite (pardon the pun).

Cheers!
Sue

Amigos will certainly pick you up at Woody's. Mind you, so will other operators.

I really like Blue Tang too, and yes, as the others have answered, Amigos will pick you up at Woody's.

How many people will be in your party? I thought there was just the two of you? Mayan Princess is only $135 in high season (for two) + tax and + service charge.

Seashell, maybe I'm doing this incorrectly, but on the Mayan Princess website they say a "double" (which I took to mean two people) in high season is $145 + 17% tax = $169.65 (vs. $113 at Woody's).

Thanks for the replies on Amigos del Mar ... Sue can't wait to sea wink your dive pics!

Maybe you aren't doing it wrong. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. I'll check again later when I have a bit more time. smile
