Ya might want to prepare for a very "interesting" conversation with the customs "officials". This has gotten a bit dicey in the last six months, the end result being that the officials are VERY well fed indeed, or have the added benefit of increased "donations".

ChunkyRuth...you gonna kick in on this one?

Ahhh yes...the meat issue. Yes, we did encounter some resistance with the quarantine officer the last time we were down.

Unfortunately, we have exhausted all the resources we know of to get any solid info on the regulations for bringing USDA meat into Belize. We have contacted the Dept of Agriculture, the Government Vet, the Tourist Board and anyone else who we could think of...to no avail.

We will be returning to AC very shortly and since barbequing is our main form of recreation, we will take our chances and bring down some of our more tastier cuts for the chef's pleasure. However, we have prepared ourselves for the possibility of it being seized by customs.

Believe me, if we do lose it, it won't ruin our visit...but...it wouldn't hurt to wish us luck anyway!

Really? Has customs gotten tougher? Last time, I spoke to the customs guy and he said, "...as long as the meat is sealed and USDA Grade "A" stamped, its OK". If this is no longer the case, lemme know. I also gave the "..I have a dozen steaks, but only need 10 of 'em <wink>" speech just in case, but lo and behold, all 12 made it. We're 3 weeks away, so if anyone has any more concrete info, pls post it for me.
PS..If they make it through, I share ya know!

Uh huh. Yep. That was me.
