My recommendation would be Senor Carlos Marin. A fine gentleman who can help even the helpless catch some nice ones. He can be reached through the Pescadore Hotel, they make his bookings. Ya must hurry, he is scheduled far in advance. If ya can't get Carlos, his son or any other of the guides at Pescadore can get the job done. Good luck.

I just got back from San Pedro yesterday. Fished with Nesto Gomez. This guy is one of the best guides I have fished with. Eyes like a hawk and he alway keeps the boat positioned just right to give you the best casting position relative to the wind and movement of fish. On one day when the fish were hard to find, he did not hesitate to cover alot of ground to locate them. Try reaching him through Ruby's hotel. His dad runs the place. He stays pretty well booked all the time so call way ahead of time.

I hooked up with Pete through SeaDuced by Belize. they also run snorkle trips, trips to the ancient ruins, cave tubeing. Pete has been guiding for 30 someodd years. he knows the waters well and is Mro Eagle eye himself. He was amazing at spotting the bone fish. His only problem was he had a rookie flycaster who is only used to small mountain streams that don't require long casts. practice up on getting that line out at least 40-50 feet.

Good point reefer... Also one must keep in mind that wind will be a factor. One should practice quick fire casts to targets in the 40 - 50 foot range in 15mph wind in all directions. Being able to do this will increase your success rate.

I can see all you Fishermen, out in your back yard practicing your cast, with your wife holding the leaf blower in the air. LOL Better yet come to S. Texas to practice, a mild day the wind is 15mph.

if I had it to do over again, and i will next time back to AC, is to hook up a floating fly with even a bubble to keep it up out of the seagrass. Put a sinker on it for weight and cast out with a spinnig reel. I would use several poles like my guide Pete had and blanket the shallows that are thick with schools of bonefish.
The day Pete took me there many shcools of fish swiming and feeding within 40 yards of the boat. Pete would see the schools feeding on the surface of the water with their fins out. I'd look and wouldn't be able to see them but Pete could. eventually, i was able to start seeing them. it took expert eye to pick them out. anyway..
it is pretty much impossible, at least for me, to get fly line out 40 feet much less 40 Yards. for all you brits out there who only know meters, "its like", 35 meters. {""=quoting daughter}
back to my point,...blanket the area where the shcools are swimming with several lines and wait and watch for the bites. then go to fish snagging.

Chloe, This is where I do all my practicing. As a matter of fact, I had a practice session this morning. I will be leaving the Valley for Austin tomorrow.

Pescador, sorry you have to leave the Valley, and will talk to you back in Austin, safe trip home. Were you Bay fishing? Hope you caught a bunch of trout and reds.

Bay fishing right around the Cullen House area. 6 trout 3 reds and 1 25" skipjack (ladyfish) that was an exciting battle. I too am disappointed to leave the valley but my job is in Austin and the bill collectors don't want to hear about my love for the Valley and especially the Lower Laguna Madre.

The Valley, Laguna Madre, S. Padre Island are our treasures. I love this area, been here 23 yrs, thought I had died and gone to Heaven. Then found Belize and that is Heaven. I wish I could be happier here, and stop dreaming of Belize. I am glad you caught fish, that 25" is great. Have to tell you a 5 ft (stark) shark story later. Never said I was good at proof reading. LOL

Chloe, Hubby is heading down your way this morining. I wasn't able to make the trip with him. He has a boat and will be out on the Laguna Madre all day tomorrow. Also stopping by the preserve on South Padre. Meeting some turtle people I think. He loves it there as well. Says it's the closest he'll get to the flats in Belize. Wish I were coming with him. Pescador!! I lived in Austin for years. Not like it used to be. I lived on North 183 at Balcones and Spicewood. Moved there in 1976. 183 was just two lanes. My parents built a beautiful stone house in Spicewood and it was on a dirt road. That house now sits in the middle of a sprawling subdivision. Capital of Texas Highway had no bridge over the "river" and MOPAC only went from 183 to Ben White. Ha!!! Went back there for a funeral a few weeks ago and got so lost I cried...... Have you lived there long????? Debbie

Oh Debbie, too bad you are not coming to the Valley, to see me. Is Hubby meeting with the Ridley's Turtle people?

Debbie, I work very close by where you lived. @ 183 and Duval. I've lived here for about 5 yrs. but I'm ready to return to the Valley. Hopefully I'll relocate to the Valley within the next 5 yrs.
