John McAffee also donated a number of ATV's to the police department a few months ago. At least one is now operating in Caye Caulker.

I believe for tax write-offs in the US you have to donate to a legitimate registered NGO. But whatever -

Mr. McAffee's motivations are good - he loves his newly adopted home and he want to help in areas that are woefully in need. He has donated to the police department and coast coast because these types of donations affect the whole community - not just his private little nook on Caye.

You can't if you donate directly, however, if you donate to a non-profit in the US that then uses the money internationally, you can get the write-off.
