Hello all! Am from TX and I heard alot of nice things about Belize and such. Is it true, there is little to no crime there? Is it true that guns are not allowed in Belize? A coworker of my spouse says that Belize is such a safe place to live and bring up your kids. (He has a home there)He says it is very family oriented and children are always welcome everywhere, that nobody bothers them. Is this true? (Sorry for all the questions)Here where I live, there is a murder daily in our city and home invasions are increasing. It is getting pretty scary here. I have a daughter that just turned 3. Was told by somebody else, that there is no safe place anywhere in the world.

We have crime and we have guns.

There are probably quite a few safe places in the world, but the big trick is to do your best to protect yourself and not put yourself in positions where you will be victim.

Belize has many places where you will be relatively safe - but you still need to be wise.

Did anyone every really answer your question? It would be nice to know what you can expect from those who have lived there for awhile.

Sorry, I can't help you out. I too am researching Belize as my retirement home. I just haven't found as much insider information as I was hoping.

I guess we just need more time to explor. Good luck to you. I live in Texas also, (Dallas area)

We have lived on the mainland belize for 7 years now and love it. As this was a British colony, they have retained most of Britians gun laws. Guns are expensive and permits are required for everything even the bullets. But as inmost of the rest of the world the criminals have no problems getting and using them. Crime is rampant in Belize City, but the rest of the country is relatively quiet crime wise.

We moved here primarily for our kids. Kids are everywhere, very friendly, and open. As are most Belizeans, it is a great culture and we love it. There are certain drawbacks culturally, such as lack of availability of common things, telephone and internet works when and if it feels like it, etc.

You would really need to come and stay for 6 months or so before moving here to make the decision for yourself. Some love it here and some hate it. Just my .02
