I was back in the lagoon early this morning. Good birds today. I also saw three Black vultures and white Ibis. The short protrusions coming from the water are air-breathing roots. To avoid suffocation in the oxygen poor mud, mangrove trees snorkel for air. They develop aerial or air-breathing roots. http://yobubba.livejournal.com/130051.html
Thank you for sharing this Elbert....We enjoy all your bird pictures including the book you created a couple of years ago...Well, maybe I should give Bubba some of the credit...Nonetheless thank you great work!
Thanks guys! I'll tell Bubba Judyann. papashine mangroves have been around for a long time and the older the species the more it has chance to develop unique dynamics for survival. You and I are due some by that reckoning ;-)
