30 minutes, and you run right along the shoreline. The closer you get to Mexico rocks the closer the reef is to the island.

I agree
Mexico rocks is a lot calmer and the coral there is really nice. A lot of big brain coral with schools of all kinds of brilliant jueveniles.

The current at Hol Chan can get a little ruff sometimes...and could spook a beginner.
It's not bad mind you...but Mexico rocks is a great place to start.

Stop by the Palapa on your way back. [Linked Image]

My snorkeling guide is Enrique at Aqua Dive, he is great with old ladies and first time snorkelers, he takes the life preserver ring, and lets you hold on to the rope, and he will tow you thru the currents, while being very patient and supportive. He also herds his group that is not holding to the ring, so he can show you all the beautiful fish and coral. He truly makes sure you see everything possible.
