bridge and road costs is dresser change compared to the 100's of millions of $s to build an international arpt. capable of supporting international, commercial passenger service

Of the 100's of requirements for the building of an "International Airport" the main and in the case of Ambergris the insurmountable one,is the availability of hospitals within a certain distance with a minimum capability of 100 beds(trauma units, etc., etc.). I think we could all agree this is laughable and somewhat out of the realm of possibility. I think the tag "International Airport" may a bit of a misnomer and perhaps means more likely the ability to clear customs there and not for "commercial" jet traffic. Having said that, who knows?

I'm sure that power line that runs north could run an entire international airport.

Financially and logistically I agree with cracked up. On the other hand, there was talk about the bridge for decades before it was actually built, as the road north, many (including myself) never thought it would happen and now, here it is.

Time will tell.

Don't understand don't allow air or boat connections. Once you land can't you make your own connections.

I am with you, I didn't understand that either, but I think it has to do with accessibility in case a flight has been delayed till the next day. These are charter airlines, that means that they are not on a tight schedule like traditional airlines and also touroperators, that means that they want book your hotel as well. When they have to move back a plane load of tourists to the hotel zone, air and water transfers are to expensive and time consuming. Also when they have to sleep the tourists in a different area (like Belize City) they have to deal with hotels they don't have contracts with, thus they have to pay top dollar when there are enough accommodations, which they likely don't have.

"Our local airlines will be about 15 miles away, so if anyone want to stay in our downtown hotel, they can come either by road, or if they want to make it faster they can come with our local airlines Maya or Tropic."
As always,The Minister makes a lot of sense. This will make the Sunset Boardwalk disgrace look like a good idea...

I'm sure the roar of jet engines will be very peaceful.

This morning on Reef TV, Mr. Heredia said that the airport would only be used for private airplanes, not commercial airplanes. Does anybody know where to get that clip and post it so we can review it again?
