It sounds to me like you are looking to do a fair bit of hanging out in the local bars. For that reason, I think you would be happier south of the cut. It's just so much easier getting around. There are beautiful resorts up north, but I would find it tiring to arrange transportation into town multiple times per day. And I know that's whta I would want to do.

Personally, I think Ramon's, the Palms, and Belizean Reef have locations that are just about perfect. You don't even need to take a cab from the airport if you fly Tropic.

Thanks Denny and Jean for your help. We have traveled the carribean alot so we understand about the jewelry thing, but still wonder if after a night out if it is safe to wander around and not look over shoulder all the time. We are very friendly people and love interacting with the locals just don't want to blunder into a situation. So we thought the only bad question is one that is not asked.:)Also thanks to Blue BiggieFL Barbara K Senorfrog and are we there yet (you're funny) laugh

And after a week in San Pedro even YOU won't care what you are wearing. I know that sounds hard to believe, but it is true. Pack for comfort, not style.

Hey Tincup, how are ya? Scooted by your place a couple of times, almost stopped in but forgot the marshmallows for toasting, and when we got back, the fire was out. (thought it felt a tad bit cooler!)

You're so right about the "you won't care what you're wearing thing" though clean and not smelly was a preferred choice (when available!).

Next time I'm just gonna take 10 white, sleeveless, undershirts. So much lighter then T-shirts. BUT ... will dress 'em up with jazzy flip flops!

Ramon's is nice and close to town. I would book diving after you get there because of weather like someone said above. We booked ahead one time and could not dive every day. We were able to work out some other activities instead of dives so it wasn't too bad. We are going down July 9-16 and are just playing it by ear this time.

San Pedro is very safe (in my opinion). We have never experienced any problems with wandering into the "wrong" part of town, if there indeed is one. Unlike a lot of other Carribean spots, the locals don't give you that "look". The locals welcome the tourists to a degree I have never experienced elsewhere. On our part we have always been the gracious guests, to go along with their equally gracious hosting. But, again, don't tempt the possible very few that might have another agenda. Your personal security is important, but I would put it well down on the list of things to actively worry about.

Hi awty! I hello'd you on your "Weekend" thread.
Getting back to clothes, I have a whole wardrobe of cotton gauze clothing as I live in Florida and more and more, Belize. It dries in no time, cool to wear and you can stay covered if you need additional sun protection. A friend of mine (similarly addicted) also points out that you can sleep in it and get up and go to the grocery store without changing. If they really get wrinkled you just throw them in the dryer for a minute. Husband also has some shirts and they look good! Readily available in Florida, but I don't know about other places.

I doubt you will need any long sleeved tops in July. Maybe the lightweight long pants for jungle expeditions (for bugs & other itchy stuff)
