For the past month, the Sustainable Tourism Programme has been carrying out construction works on North Front Street. This project, for the last couple weeks, has resulted in the diversion of the flow of traffic and more recently, in the relocation of some local businesses. Over the course of the weekend, several small kiosks that are located directly across from the Caye Caulker Water Taxi were temporarily relocated to Battlefield Park.

Recent reports to certain sections of the media have indicated that subsequent to this arrangement, the vendors will not be returning to that section of North Front Street. These vendor kiosks were located inside the property line of a private lease held by Caye Caulker Water Taxi and outside the scope of work and public domain of the STP Fort Point Pedestrian Walk Project. The sidewalk and drainage is currently being upgraded under the project, and for that reason has interrupted access to the vendor kiosks. This construction will be completed over the next few weeks, however, the decision to return the vendors to that location will not be facilitated by the BTB & STP, but entirely through the efforts of the Belize City Council.
