We are coming to AC on April 24th. do we need to bring Belize currency? Are there ATM's or is it best to go to a bank and exchange US$'s for Belize $'s.

Do a search for atm's, there is a lot of information regarding that. I haven't been there yet but from what I understand american $$ is accepted everywhere...no need to exchange. I will know shortly, we leave friday...

You don't need to change your US money to Belizean money. US is more than readily accepted and you will receive change in BZ $ and often a combination of BZ and US $.

If you have lots of BZ $ left over at the end of your trip and aren't planning on coming back soon then change that sum back.

If you spend US currency don't expect to get change in US. I watched in horror as some tourists from a cruise ship demanded change in USD at a store in Belize City - the cashier tried, but when it came to the small change she of course had no US coins. These tourists were incensed that the store did not have 35CENTS (us) for them ....... a great lesson on what makes a really ugly american.

If there is no line at the Bank in the airport just after customs, I usually exchange some $$ just to have some BZD for incidentals. If you are heading directly to AC, you probably don't need to do this. Of course the kids love to do this as their "savings" instantly doubles!!!
