Has anyone made this bus trip from Cancun to Chetumal? Final destination...Caye Caluker. Is there a water taxi available from Chetumal to Caye Caulker? What are my options?
I just returned from Caye Caulker and I was talking to other tourists and am trying to cut back on expenses traveling to and from Chicago to Caye Caulker. Round trip AA was $748.00. If I can save 200-300 dollars on travel expense...I can stay longer next year. Time is not a problem.

The bus from Cancun to Chetumal is fine. Just be sure you get on the PRIMERA CLASSE EXPRESS bus. Plenty of legroom, wide seats, a bathroom on board and usually a movie. The express takes about 5 hours. Cost is less than $30 US per person. I do not think there is a boat from Chetumal to Caye Caulker....you could, I suppose, take the boat from Chetumal to San Pedro then another boat to Caye Caulker.

Thanks shuffles...

Primera Classe...is what I was looking for. Do you know if Tropic airlines flies out of Chetumal?

Maya Island Air flies between Cancun & Belize City.

By bus, you will have to get to Chetumal in time for the afternoon water taxi departure. The San Pedro Belize Express water taxi has a connecting water taxi to Caye Caulker.

If you arrive in Chetumal too late, maybe you can get to Corozal in time to get a flight to Ambergris.

You'll find lots of info on my BelizeBus site, including links to the Belizean airlines and a link the the ticketbus site site for Mexican bus schedules:

One caveat about the Maya Island flight is that you said you wanted to save some money. Last time I checked, the flight was $400 US one way. That's if they actually run the flight.
