A groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday, June 14th, at 11:00am for the new school being built in the San Mateo area to the north of the river. Mayoress Elsa Paz and others involved in the project addressed the public, which included President Tom Vidrine and Director Jan Brown, representing our Chamber of Commerce. The new school will help to alleviate the current classroom shortage problem facing the island. The Anglican Diocese of Belize held the groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Primary School located in San Mateo on Wednesday, June 14 at 11am. Mayoress Elsa Paz made a welcoming speech giving appreciation for beginning the construction process on the long planned for and much needed primary school. Anglican Bishop Philip Wright blessed the site.

There were many San Matieo residents in attendance.

The Anglican Primary School plans to open in September 2006 offering Infant I and II classes. Future plans are for Infant I through Standard VI classes, a Special Education class and a preschool.
