The pictures presented above give some idea of the devastation we
encountered on the trip. They cannot give any idea of how we all felt
seeing the devastation, seeing families with absolutely nothing left
after everything was blown away. These families live from hand to
mouth.
The Mennonite construction crews who have come from Canada,
Orange Walk, Barton Creek, Little Belize and Cayo, were like
bees, hustling in their movements to build as rapidly as possible.
These people have moved to Punta Gorda to spend a week, and in
some cases a month, to freely give to their fellow man. What an
example to us all.
The high points of the trip were seeing happy faces with a new
shelter. The low points were visiting families where we knew we
could not help. A family of eight huddled under a 10X10 tarp close to
the ground with few belongings sticks in my mind. We were unable
to stop at any more and returned to cayo.
