Lion members join
"Dr. Wayo" in fundraiser at Barefoot Iguana
|
Over the past two weekends various organizations, businesses and clubs
held fundraisers for different causes. We are happy to report that all
were very successful and the funds raised will be put to good use.
The first fundraiser was held by the San Pedro
Library. Supporters and friends of the San Pedro Library held a "Full
Moon at the Casa Solana" party. The afternoon party consisted of pot luck
hors doeuvres and a cash bar for a donation of $10 per person. The
hostess, Mary Beissner would like to publicly thank everyone who attended
and is happy to report that the 2000 Library Fundraising Party was a
success. Total profits were $1,355 which will go towards new book shelves
for the San Pedro Library.
The massive benefit drive for the Lions
Inter-Community Hospital continued last weekend. This time it was the
Barefoot Iguana who sponsored the event. During the ultimate weekend
party, a percentage of all drinks went to building the hospital. What
made the evening more attractive was the staff who were in costume headed
by Chief of Staff - Dr. Wayo. The party went on until 3:00 a.m. featuring
good music and great "morphine shots." The total amount that went to
charity could not be disclosed at print time due to the absence of
management.
Another great show of heart held at
Central Park was the benefit for Shahin Godoy. Ten year-old Shahin
recently underwent brain cancer surgery in the United States and needs
follow-up treatments in Merida, Mexico. The evening featured an acrobatic
performance by family members and friends of Shahin as well as a bicycle
stunt show by medical student Larry Nelson. Finger-licking barbecued
chicken and pork were on sale. The estimated profit by print time was
$1500 but more donations are still being received.
All of these fundraiser would not have been possible
without the help of many individuals. Their success could not have been
achieved if it were not for you, the participants and supporters. Thank
you.
