Ceci Lara
of the San Pedro Dance Company reigned in her elaborate costume during
the "Dance of the World"
|
A captivating presentation put on by the members of the San Pedro Dance
Company had Central Park filled to capacity. The group performed as part
of the nightly shows of the millennium celebrations. During the previous
nights, locals and visitors had been entertained with great music, dances
and shows, leaving everyone anticipating the San Pedro Dance Company's
presentation.
The stage was dressed with a picturesque
background painted by local artist Papo Alamilla representing San Pedro
Town of the past. As the lights dimmed a narration of the history of the
island and its traditions was orated by Mrs. Lydia Guerrero and portrayed
on stage by the members of the company. The spectators were taken back in
time to the days of the Spaniards and British coming to our island, the
time of the Chicleros (chicle workers) and coconut plantations and the
days of celebrations and traditional dances.

The San Pedro Dance
Company took the audience back in time performing traditional dances like
the Waltz
|
It was during this part of
the show that many were filled with memories as the performers reminded
them of the dances and courting techniques done years gone by. The
different dance eras included the waltz, danson, quadrille (quadrilla)
and tango leading up to the modern dances of today. All these dances were
made more vivid by their costumes, appropriate to each dance. Once again
the Juniors entertained with their renditions of modern dances. The grand
finale included all the members of the group, highlighted by Ceci Lara
doing the Dance of the World. Adding to the excitement were the on-stage
fireworks, closing the show.
All in all the San Pedro Dance Company once again
showcased the best entertainment, bidding goodbye to the old century and
embracing the year 2000 with their marvelous performance.
