Glendi with prize winning poster
|
Recently, over twenty-five entries were received from Standard V and VI
students of the San Pedro R.C. School for the 1999-2000 Lions
International Peace Poster Contest. Throughout the world this contest has
rapidly gained recognition as thousands of entries are received. Every
year the contest is held under a different theme; this year's being "A
New Beginning for Peace." As with other contests, strict rules and
conditions are to be followed. The contest is sponsored by the Lions Club
and open to students 11, 12, and 13 years of age.
The San Pedro Sun was
given the privilege of selecting the winning poster which will advance to
the next level of competition. Judging was based on originality,
expression of the theme and artistic merit. After a process of
elimination, Standard VI student, Glendi Pacheco's poster was voted the
winner. Her poster now travels to compete at district level and if
selected, will move on to international competition.
By participating, the children are encouraged to
consider the importance of world peace. The contest's international grand
prize winner will receive a trip for themselves and two family members to
the Lions Club International Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. They
will be presented with a cash award of US$2500 and an engraved
commemorative plaque. All this will take place in June of this year.
Twenty-three merit award winners will each receive a cash award of US$500
plus a framed certificate. Congratulations to Glendi and good luck.
Special thanks to all the students who participated and to the Peace
Poster Contest Chairman Lion Rosario Guerrero for organizing the contest.
