The San Pedro Lions Club is proud to report that many good things were
accomplished throughout the year 1999. As we proceed into the year 2000
we look forward to a beneficial year so as to continue serving our
community. The San Pedro Lions Club can only keep its strength with the
town's help and support. President Severo Guerrero has been very
instrumental in leading the club. We are happy to report the
following:
New Year's Eve Dance and Raffle a Success
The annual New Year's Eve dance
and raffle held by the San Pedro Lions Club was a resounding success.
Love Explosion of Orange Walk was a great hit and party lovers celebrated
beyond sunrise. Total raffle sales amounted to $1,991.00, admission fees
totaled $3,361.50 and bar sales were $3,260. After expenses were deducted

It's convention time once again
The National Convention for
members of the Lions Clubs of Belize is just around the corner. This year
the convention will be hosted by the dynamic members of the Belmopan
Lions Club. The dates have been set for April
28th,
29th and
30th. The convention
is held yearly to bring the five clubs of Belize together to share
Lionism spirit and ideas. District Governor Lion Leonides Cuellar has
urged all clubs to elect a convention chairman and to start preparations
for this scheduled occasion. At a recent meeting of the San Pedro Lions
Club, Lion Felix Ayuso Jr. was elected to fill this position assisted by
Lion Carmen Eiley as co-chairperson. San Pedro Lions Club has always been
a strong supporter of the convention and attended in full force.
Preparations will commence immediately to elect a new Miss San Pedro
Lions Club to represent San Pedro at the convention. Ideas are welcome to
make San Pedro's participation at the 2000 Lions Convention in Belmopan a
success.
More donations for San Pedro Lions Club
Inter-community Hospital
Lion Ramon Nuñez, Chief
fundraiser for the San Pedro Lions Club Inter-Community Hospital
continues his tireless efforts to raise funds for this project. At a
recent general meeting, Lion Ramon presented the club with yet another
donation totaling $1,187 that he personally collected from a group of
guests that were staying at Ramon's Village.
In other related news Eduardo "Papo"

statue to the inter-community hospital.
Update on San Pedro Fire Victims fund
After the unfortunate recent
tragedy that destroyed two houses on Barrier Reef Drive, San Pedro joined
forces to raise funds for the victims. An impressive amount was collected
through individuals and businesses. Many pledged their labor or prized
possessions to be used in raffles. The Board of Directors of the San
Pedro Lions Club was offered the responsibility of administrating the
funds wisely. After speaking to the victims it was unanimously agreed
that the Valdez family be assisted immediately in the construction of
their new home. The treasurer of the club has traveled to the city and
purchased all the necessary materials and supplies to commence the
building. The club would like to remind those who pledged money to
deliver their donation to Mr. Abel Guerrero at the Lions weekly bar-b-que
or call him at 026-2043.
San Pedro Lions donate to Venezuela's disaster fund
Our South American neighbors in
Venezuela have been severely affected by the recent floods and landslides
that killed thousands. Past District Governor Lion Baldemar Graniel who
is a member of Circle Internet chat line, consisting mainly of Lions
throughout the world, requested help for these victims. Lions made
contributions towards this cause directly through Lions Club
International Foundation (LCIF). The reason being that the total amount
that Lions raised was promised to be matched by LCIF, making the total
donation double. The San Pedro Lions Club has made a contribution of
$1000 to this cause.
