Lions Club as they prepare to leave for Nicaragua

On
May 16th, 2001, twenty-three
San Pedro Lions Club members and friends set off to the "Land of Lakes and
Volcanoes", Nicaragua to attend the Istmania Convention. Neatly attired, the
group was indeed ready to experience yet another serious adventure as they
traveled to this beautiful destination. The theme for this year was "Nicaragua
2001 con leonismo hacia el tercer milenio" (Nicaragua 2001 with Lionism towards
the third millennium). The Multiple District "D" Istmania is the convention that
brings together Lions from Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala, Honduras and El
Salvador. For many years now, the Lions of Belize has been invited as guests of
honor to this convention and been able to share their own views on Lionism.
During their five-day stay in Nicaragua, the San Pedro delegation represented
the Lions of Belize Zone 59 with much pride as they participated in the cultural
presentation, hospitality booth and gala evenings. The Lions of San Pedro took
the opportunity to hand out printed material, Belizean products and used other
paraphernalia to display our beautiful jewel in their hospitality booth. The San
Pedro theme, "Taking services to new heights," attracted hundreds of
conventioneers who jumped at the chance to sample some of Belize's best. Apart
from the wonderful Central American treats, the gathering also gave
conventioneers an opportunity to make new friends. Adding
to the large participation from Belize, without a doubt, was the presence of
Miss Belize Lions Zone 59 Luisana Nuñez of San Pedro. Luisana stole the hearts
of many through her charm and grace not only with her cultural presentation but
during the entire convention. In addition to the scheduled programs, the San
Pedro delegation also visited some scenic places of this country which included
tours of Managua, Granada and other points of interest.
The presence of the Belize Lions Zone 59 was very noticeable at this convention
as the San Pedro group made certain to demonstrate the friendliness that is
recognized as truly Belizean. The San Pedro Lions Club would like to take
this opportunity to thank the following businesses that provided the delegation
with give-a-ways, products, t-shirts and other supplies. Thank you to Searious
