The world of
computers has reached this once humble fishing village and is spreading like a
"virus" as we progress. Computers are changing the day-to-day work environment
and alleviating the long hours of tasks done manually. These sensitive machines
also need to be carefully maintained and serviced so that this valuable addition
to the workplace can serve its purpose. To do this, skilled professionals need
to be hired. This week we are pleased to introduce a local expert who, because
of his great interest in this technology, has made a profession out of it -
Julian Rivero. Julian Rivero was born in Belize City on
June 16th 1972 to Valerie
Dawson and Cesario Rivero. As a kid, Julian developed a deep interest in
repairing household appliances and putting things together. Growing up in San
Pedro among his twin brother Christian, brothers Cesar and Carlo and sisters
Johnnia and Janelie, Julian was known as the inquisitive one. While in school,
Julian was an excellent student attending San Pedro Roman Catholic School and
then San Pedro High School, graduating from the Academic class in 1989. He then
moved to Belize City were he attended St. John's College/Junior College
graduating in 1992 with an Associate's Degree in Business Administration. Julian
then enrolled at the University College of Belize where he received a Bachelor's
Degree in Business Administration in 1994. Julian
returned to his hometown, San Pedro, and was hired as a manager by Out Island
Divers, a business that catered specifically to off island diving. After three
years in this profession, Mr. Rivero was offered another managerial position,
this time with Emerald Water Limited, a business that filled tanks with
compressed air for scuba diving. After five years with this company, the
business was sold and Julian felt it was time to venture out on his own.
Julian's childhood interest of working with appliances
and gadgets never left him. During his high school days he was given the
opportunity to work with one of the first computers at his school. This unique
experience opened a new door in Julian's future and he was eager to learn more
about this new technology. His first step came when the owner of The Coconut Wireless (now San Pedro
Sun) gave him a broken computer. This was indeed a challenge
for Julian, but deep inside he knew that making this machine work would become
an obsession and the possibilities of learning about computers would be
limitless. Armed with only a few computer manuals and the strong desire to make
this piece of equipment work, Julian enlisted the help of a friend from Belize
City. Together they pulled, plugged and molded the pieces together and lo and
behold his mission was successful. A new world had been opened for Julian. He
began purchasing computer books and magazines to learn about this amazing new
device. The more he read, the more interested he became. Computers became an
addiction to Julian. To further enhance his self-acquired knowledge he took a
correspondence course with ICS. Turning once again to publications: newspaper
articles, books and magazines, Julian claims this is where he gained about 75%
of his current knowledge. For the past ten years, Julian
has performed computer repair as a side job. When the requests for his service
became overwhelming, he decided to devote all his time to his real passion -
computer repair. The demand for this service continued to grow as the computer
era "reached" to "La Isla Bonita" and Julian found himself being bombarded with
work. Along with his "better half" Anel Guerrero, Julian has started a new
business - Computer Systems Management or CSM 2000. Located on Pescador Drive,
below Martha's Hotel, Julian deals with all aspects of computers. From computer
networks, software and software consulting to hardware sales and accessories,
CSM 2000 offers all this and more. Julian says there is no job too small or too
big and if the need arises he even makes house calls.
Julian has big plans for his business and also for himself. He says life has
been good to him. He has been blessed with a wonderful son, Julian Alejandro and
a loving partner Anel, who undertakes the role of office manager and personal
secretary. Mr. Rivero told the San Pedro Sun,
"Through this business I want to introduce San Pedro to the latest in computer
technology but at the same time keep my prices to a minimum. We live in an age
where computers are now essential for day-to-day operations. I strive to make
things better for everyone so that we can all progress as the times change. I
would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported
my business and myself whether directly or indirectly."
Julian Rivero is living proof that one can achieve whatever they want to as long
as they have the strong desire and willpower to do so. A self-taught computer
repair technician, Julian Rivero is certainly an admirable "automated"
personality in "Our Community."
