San Pedro's own Excalibur captained by Arely Marin captured the honor of Champion Boat at the
11th Annual International
Bill Fishing Tournament last weekend. Angler Mike Marin landed the Heaviest Blue
Marlin, weighing in at 245 pounds, which earned the Champion boat a total of 490
points (two points for bill fish, one for non-bill fish). The tournament began at 8:00 a.m. on February
9th with a Bimini start from
the Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina, sponsor of the event. At a poolside
buffet on Sunday, prizes were announced. Besides the winners mentioned above,
the following boats and anglers also took home prizes. They were: 2nd Place boat Vitamin
Sea, 300 points, Angler Florence Bouloy, also named Lady Angler for her 150 pound
Blue Marlin; 3rd Place boat
Lady Advance, 148 æ points, Angler Patrick
Joseph, who also captured the prize for the Heaviest Wahoo (80 pounds and
a possible record winner); 4th Place boat Papa Joe, 112 ‡ points;
5th Place boat Camelot, 58 ‡ points. Camelot's Jennie Armstrong took the prize for
Heaviest Dolphin at 6 ‡ pounds. The award for Junior Angler went to Andrew Roe
also of Camelot for his 15 ‡ pound Wahoo.
Esso Standard Oil, an annual sponsor of the tournament,
generously donated $10,000 for prizes.
