The Lions of "La Isla Bonita" will join members of Belize Lions Zone 59 in beautiful Dangriga in the Stann Creek District this month to celebrate their 25th Annual Convention April 26th to April 28th.

The host club has been working closely with Zone Chairman Dr. Chris Bennett to ensure that all details are worked out for the conventioneers to have a fantastic time. This year's theme is "Lions - Reacting to Current Needs". This theme was selected to remind members of the need for Lions Clubs to change their focus to address the present needs of the Belizean communities and to perhaps also change the way they are doing things in their Club.

In commemoration of the Zone's 25th Anniversary, a fun-filled, educational and informative convention has been planned with some minor changes made to the regular convention format. Zabaneh's Riverside Lawn on North Riverside Street has been selected as this year's convention site where most of the activities will take place.

On Friday, April 26th the official opening ceremony will be held during a formal sit-down dinner followed by entertainment and music. One of the most anticipated events of the convention, the Hospitality Booth competition, will follow. On Saturday, April 27th the Zone will provide breakfast, free of charge, at the convention site to encourage punctuality for the seminar. The morning session will include the selection of a new Zone Chairman and Vice Zone Chairman. Conventioneers will then participate in a special community project during the afternoon. Saturday evening will showcase the cultural presentations of each Lions Club Queen and each Club. The new Lions Zone 59 Queen will also be crowned that evening followed by a Grand Dance. On Sunday, April 28th a church service will be held before the parade of the Clubs through the principal streets of Dangriga. First and second place plaques will be awarded to the best float and uniformed marching delegation. The convention officially comes to a close on Sunday afternoon after the distribution of awards.

The San Pedro Lions Club, under the leadership of Convention Chairperson Lion Melly Kumul, has plans to attend this event in full force. The details are being worked out so that the Club can once again make a lasting impression during the convention. The San Pedro Lions Club Queen, Debbie Ann Graniel, is busily preparing for her presentation, which is sure to delight the conventioneers.

The San Pedro Lions Club takes this opportunity to invite the general public to join them at this convention and share with the Lionistic Family of Belize. Registration fees are as follows: Single Lions/Male Guests - $35; Lions Couple - $60; Female Guests - $30; Youths (12 and over) - $20. All interested parties are urged to register as soon as possible. Please note that the registration fee entitles the person free entry into all the functions, including the sit-down dinner, breakfast on Saturday morning and lunch on Sunday, among other things. Persons from San Pedro wanting to register may contact the Club Secretary, Lion Felix Ayuso for more information at 026-2070.
