Lions provide a distribution center for donated items

As many know, because of their reputation for being fair, honest and impartial, the San Pedro Lions Club was chosen to determine the division of funds raised for the recent fire victims. Last week, the SP Lions Board of Directors met and decided the following way to distribute the money collected. Each of the six homeowners who lost property in the fire will receive $10,000. The San Pedro Lions Club has declined to accept any money for the building they lost in the fire. The remainder of the funds will be divided among those who were living in the buildings lost, which amounts to $350 for each victim, both adults and children.

According to Lion Treasurer Abel Guerrero more than $82,000 was collected plus some additional construction materials. He added that a few pledges remain outstanding, so anyone still owing to this fund may contact him at 226-2043.

During the Lions Friday night barbecue, money was distributed as well as toys, clothing and canned food donated by the staff and students of The Island Academy.
